A few weeks ago, we showcased web designs that made use of the color yellow. Along those same lines, this week we are focusing on another warm and bold color, one that definitely has lots of impact. This inspirational showcase is all about the color red. Red can have several meanings, and a few of them even contradict one another, such as love and anger. Despite how the color red is being used in a design, there is one thing for certain – it can definitely get people’s attention. So much in fact, that studies have shown red to cause a person’s respiration rate and blood pressure to increase. Notice how these 50 web designs use the power of red to strengthen their message. Whether you’re designing a user interface for a website or an iPhone app, it’s always a good idea to start with a wireframe. It can be a big time saver if you’re able to nail down the placement of major layout elements early on in a project. There are a number of wireframing applications out there, but a lot of user interface designers like to start out on paper with sketches of what things might look like. With so many tools available to quickly create digital wireframes, some may argue that this is an unnecessary step in the design process. But I think the free flowing style of a sketched wireframe or mockup can be refreshing. Besides, there’s nothing like good ole pencil and paper to get the creative juices flowing.
For this post, I’ve collected 18 great examples of sketched UI wireframes and mockups. A lot of these look so good that you may be inspired to start your next project with a sketch. (more…)
A clean and minimal web design is an effective way to convey an image of elegance and sophistication. This type of design is all about doing more with less, and making use of plenty of white space to let content and page elements breathe. However, it can be difficult to come up with a solid minimal website, because you can’t rely on “shiny” design elements to make things visually appealing. So if you’ve struggled in the past to tackle this type of web design, we’re here to help. Here’s a showcase of 60 minimal and super clean web designs to inspire you. (more…)
Letterpress printing has been around since the 1400′s, but we’ve seen a revival and renewed interest in the art form in recent years. People have fallen in love with the added texture and depth that letterpress can give to a printed piece. Here on WDL, we’ve showcased letterpress business cards, but letterpress also works well for other types of printed material, such as invitations. Invitations need to look great in order to entice the recipient to attend an event, so the rich quality of letterpress printing is a great way to make a big impression. Here I’ve put together a showcase of letterpress invitations for inspiration. (more…)
A website can hold lots of information, so a big issue is making sure the most important information gets the attention it needs. A good solution to this is using a slideshow on the home page to highlight featured content. What makes the slideshow so great is its ability show several pieces of content within a limited amount of space. Also, transitions and movement are a great way to get the users attention and get them engaged.
Slideshows and content sliders have really become a popular trend lately in web design thanks to solutions like jQuery that make it relatively easy to add such interactions. A while back, we even posted a collection of jQuery slider scripts and tutorials to help you get started. So now we’re showing you 55 examples of slideshows in web design to inspire you. (more…)
There are many elements of great photography. One of the most important is lighting. Whether you’re using artificial lighting or natural lighting, you must have a good understanding of each. Here are 30 examples of natural light photography. Notice how the lighting becomes much more than just a way to light the subject. In many of these the light takes on volume and becomes the focal point. (more…)
A few weeks ago for our Monday inspiration I posted a collection of yellow web designs. So today, we’ll focus on it’s neighbor on the color wheel…green. Nevertheless, green can have many different meanings. So here are 50 green web designs to help you see how it’s being used, and to help you get some ideas of how you might use green in your next project. (more…)

Give a talented and creative Photoshop user some photographs and the possibilities are only limited to the imagination. Photo manipulations are illusions created by photo editing techniques. There are subtle photo manipulations and there are those that depict a far-fetched illusion executed in a realistic way. The latter are normally meant to have some shock value with their audience.
