Headers and footers are always a big concern in web design. These two powerful sections of a website hold great importance and are always something to worry about when designing a page. The header is the first thing the user will see when opening the page, so they must be perfect. The footer, in the other hand, was for a long time something not much appreciated, it was a section of the website almost forgotten. Lately this reality change a bit and we can find amazing footers… filled with cool information, social connections and other stuff. These days headers and footers actually show us some new and cool trends, typography and unique styles.

Here you will see a selection of great examples of headers and footers. Some are colorful, some are minimalist, others are informative and many of them are very creative, so check them out and get some inspiration.

It’s really great to see designers breathing life into what used to be boring elements (mainly the footer). Great inspiration for anyone going the extra mile.

Nice collection. Most of the sites are having good footers than the header I think :) Anyway Happy New Year to all the readers :)

Those are some really nice headers and footers. I always wonder though, how many readers do you lose by putting your content ‘below the fold’ – so that users have to scroll down to read your posts?

What iI think is inspiring about these samples is when I layout a design of a website I am usually thinking of how elements of content relates to each other. But the thought of starting a design with the “connection” of the header and the footer seems like a fun way to work out a look and feel that starts with design as a good idea. This approach would leave a solid foundation that could be build on.

Each example here I can see how the “middle” content elements could be designed in a logical way, whereas the header and footers effectively brand the overall look and feel of the site

Happy New Year! I second Chris’s comment. By adding calls to action, social networking icons and some creative design, you can create a really slick footer.

am i the only one that thinks the idea of “below the fold” is not an issue? if someone goes through the process of clicking a link or entering a URL to get to a site, wouldn’t it be safe to assume they would scroll down at least once to see what’s on the page?
