When you see punctuation as you’re reading, there is no need to stop and think, “What does that symbol mean?”. You instantly know. You were taught the meaning of punctuation at a young age and have probably encountered it everyday since. It’s this familiarity that makes these symbols effective as design elements, especially for logos. […]
Hand drawn elements are a really good way to give your website a cool touch! You can do that by adding a nice hand drawn illustration to your page, a stylish hand draw font, icon, some lines, characters or any other thing you want. Hand drawn elements can give your website an informal look… they can add personality and humor to it.
In a ‘non orthodox’ way (informal way) I would say that gradients are a mix of color’s shades… you can use the same color in many shades, many shades of many colors or several other combinations you may think of. The point is that gradients are beautiful and can give your website a very unique style. You can use a cool gradient at the whole website design, or only at the header, footer or just in a couple elements of it, but I’m pretty sure about one thing: combining the right colors and shades will make you a gradient lover!
Not too long ago I owned a site called Card Observer, which is a gallery of business card designs. Everyday I would have to look through submissions and pick out the best business cards. This was something I really enjoyed and miss doing. So I thought it would be fun to do a showcase of […]
We live in a world that is constantly in motion. Some things move very quickly and can seem like a blur, but with photography, we can freeze time and get a better look at the action. Action photography is all about timing – being in the right place at the right time. It’s also important […]
Last Friday (March, 26th), Henry posted an article with 30 Fonts Perfect for Vintage and Retro Style Design and I simply loved the first font of the list, the matchbook typefaces. By the time I saw it I could think of several good ways to use it in web design, print design on even other ways. I was so inspired that I decided to do a selection of retro and vintage websites for our weekly web design inspirational post. I really like retro and vintage stuff… websites, posters, print, adds, everything.
The color of our inspirational web design post for this monday will be brown! Last week, when I was putting together the 50 Yellow Web Designs to Inspire You selection I had the impression that my eyes crossed over really cool brown websites… but right now I think that it was only an impression, cause it was a bit rough to gather all this.
In the world of print advertising, there’s a small window to grab the audience’s attention. Being restricted to a still image means the message must be very strong and catchy. Ad agencies often rely on humor to achieve this. A humorous print ad campaign starts with a funny idea, but must be brought to life […]
For this week inspirational post about web design I decided to gather some yellow sites for us! Personally, I like yellow in web design. And by that I mean that you can use yellow in the whole website or just in some elements of it – like heather, footer, typography, etc. Sometimes a cool combination between a neutral color and a vibrant one lead to an amazing result, so check out the examples we will show here and start thinking about using yellow for your designs.
Navigation is one of the most important aspects of a web design, but this doesn’t mean it needs to be overly complicated or over designed. In fact, when it comes to navigating a website, simplicity is a good thing. Some navigations make use of design elements like 3D bars, buttons, and tabs to appear clickable, […]
