50 Inspiring Textured Web Designs

After showing you A Showcase of Clean White Web Designs a couple weeks ago, it’s time for us to add some textured designs to our lists. Textures are a great way to give a special touch to a website. They can be used in a specific part of the layout – the header/footer, for example, or they can be used in the whole page as a background. The thing is that textures are versatile, beautiful and stylish. So here are 50 excellent examples of textures in web design to inspire you.

There are some really creative and inspiring pieces here. Healthy Harvest is one of my favourites. I like the earthy feel it has, layout and use of colours. This post is definitely inspiring my to do some exciting web design.

Really good designs but the loading time of some pages takes part of their beauty away. Usability still counts. No matter how inspiring and gorgeous the design is.

This is a FANTASTIC collection. Great post! I love the Harmony Republic site, very cool! A lot of CSS3 in this studios web designs. Can’t wait for IE to jump on board.

    Thanks for the link!

I feel honoured to see my site alongside all these other brilliant designs.

I don’t know what happened but my redesigned site has been picked up by several design blogs lately, I’m seeing a 700% increase in traffic.

Glad to see an article about texture. I think it’s an element and principal of art that doesn’t get the attention it deserves on the web.

Here’s a cool technique I like to use:
    1. Use a CSS3 gradient or flat background color.
    2. Create a black and white transparent png in Photoshop, with the opacity set really low.
    3. Overlay the texture image onto the color or gradient background.

It’s pretty easy, it loads fast, and it creates great results. We just did an episode of Doctype that includes this technique: https://doctype.tv/websql
