There are some really good examples in this post of high impact type in web design. I especially like Morphix website. It’s not just the great typography but the design, layout and colour scheme.
I will definetly be inspired to use big typography in the future to create a high impact and attract the users attention.

Many of these are design fodder, but looking at the one featured with a top graphic, Oliver Cavanaugh, I don’t really think it’s effective. Requires a large monitor or you’re scrolling side to side and up and down. I like the idea behind it, but doesn’t take into account the majority of browser sizes.
Some of these are just gateway pages too, so they should qualify. One even had huge graphic entry page only to display a site with tiny type inside.

Large typography can be really hard to pull of when designing for the web, but when it is done well it looks superb!

It’s incredible how the art of typography really sets the stage for the whole website, poster, brochure, etc. Without the right font style it’s really hard to convince the reader of a the feeling you are trying to convey.
